Our Advocates

JDRF’s work in advocacy is supported by passionate volunteers whose lives have been personally impacted by type 1 diabetes (T1D). By making their voices heard at the government decision-making table, policymakers are in a better position to understand the challenges associated with T1D and the importance of finding cures.

In 2021, we re-established the National Government Relations (GR) Committee, a group of phenomenal, committed volunteers who provide strategic direction and leadership to ensure JDRF Canada meets its advocacy and GR objectives both federally and provincially. In addition, two Regional Advisory Groups in Alberta and Atlantic Canada were formed to focus on #AccessforAll in jurisdictions where movement on coverage was slow.

2021 also marked a federal election campaign that helped us re-build the Juvenile Diabetes Caucus co-chaired by MP Marie-France Lalonde, MP Chris d’Entremont, MP Carol Hughes and Senator Nancy Hartling, ensuring we have federal all-party support for our issues. We could not do what we do without our advocacy volunteers and are extremely grateful for their contributions.
