Transition 101 - What's Next After High School

Pre-Transition workshops for teens, parents, healthcare professionals, and Diabetes Hope Foundation (DHF) Alumni Volunteer Mentors to discuss the transition to post-secondary education, rights and benefits as a student with diabetes and other helpful tips from DHF Alumni. In addition, DHF’s “Canadian Guide for Successful Transition to College and University,” offers students information regarding their rights and accessibility options at post-secondary institutions across Canada.

Are you a parent of a teen living with T1D entering a new school system or grade? Are you entering high school soon and wondering how to cope with the changes? You need to know your rights. This virtual event is designed to support you and/or your loved one living with T1D and provide you the tools you need to navigate your rights in the school system, respectfully and with results. In this session you will learn: 

  • Information on your rights as a parent or student in the school system
  • How to check your province's and board's policy around T1D
  • Know how to use policy to your advantage to advocate for yourself or child
  • How you can manage and trouble shoot issues that arise through effective communications
  • How to cope with a change in school or teachers
