JDRF Applauds the Government of Canada’s CANRISK Questionnaire

TORONTO (November 14, 2011) – As a member of the Diabetes Partnership developed as a result of the Canadian Diabetes Strategy (CDS), JDRF applauds the Government of Canada’s announcement on the release of the Canadian Diabetes Risk Questionnaire (CANRISK). CANRISK will expand the reach of diabetes awareness and assist in identifying an individual’s risk of developing pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes.

“JDRF welcomes this announcement which will increase diabetes prevention efforts and assist in spreading awareness of the seriousness of this disease,” said Andrew McKee, President and CEO of JDRF. “We thank the Government for its efforts and hard work on this important initiative.”

More than nine million Canadians live with diabetes or pre-diabetes and globally, every ten seconds, someone dies from diabetes-related causes. CANRISK is an important step to identify those at risk and to hopefully help Canadians protect themselves from this disease.

“CANRISK will truly impact and hopefully protect the lives and health of Canadians” said McKee. “It is also inspiring to see that the Government of Canada is working with its key stakeholders, such as Shoppers Drug Mart and pharmacists, to grow its prevention efforts.”
