Ford Motor Company Windsor reaches $1M fundraising milestone for diabetes research

JDRF Canada hosts VIP reception to honour Ford’s contribution to its Walk to Cure Diabetes

Windsor, ON, November 7, 2017 – Ford Motor Company and JDRF Canada are pleased to announce that Ford Windsor Operations has raised a cumulative total of over $1 million for the JDRF TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes

The JDRF Walk is a powerful movement in which thousands of Canadians rally together every year to walk and raise funds to support type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. T1D is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that is needed in order to obtain energy from food.
The Windsor team has dedicated considerable resources, leadership and passion over the years in order to raise funds for the best and brightest T1D scientists in the world, who are working diligently to find a cure. The Windsor effort began in 2001 and has consistently been one of Ford’s top performing sites, raising more than $50,000 each year. Incredibly, this year it joins special company by surpassing a cumulative total of $1 million.

Ford is pleased to thank not only the plant and union leadership for their support, but also the employees from across the entire plant landscape – recognizing that it takes a collective effort to reach the level of $1 million.

JDRF Canada President and CEO Dave Prowten is proud and delighted to honour the relationship between JDRF and Ford Motor Company. To extend its gratitude, JDRF is hosting a VIP reception on November 11 for Ford Windsor employees who have done so much to raise money for diabetes research.

“We are getting closer to curing a disease that affects so many people around the world, and we want to express our deep appreciation to Ford Motor Company for supporting our cause,” says Mr. Prowten.  “We are very grateful to Ford for its incredible fundraising efforts. This celebration is our way of showing everyone at Ford how much their contribution means to us.”

More details about the VIP event will emerge shortly. For more information and/or to arrange an interview, please contact JDRF using the media contact information listed below.
