Registration is open for the 2019 Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF

The dates of the three local events that are taking place in 2019 are:

Many teams are registering for the local Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF events in this area, and showing their support of T1D research, and the commitment to finding a cure for the over 3 million Canadians affected by diabetes. We invite YOU and your family and friends to join them.

The Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF is a fun, family-oriented event, with live music, children’s area with lots of activities and refreshments for all those who attend.   Why not form your own team, either from family and friends, or within your workplace?

Walk Volunteers Needed

As always we are looking for volunteers to assist with the planning of all our Walk events.

There are many different positions open, whether you are interested in recruiting corporate teams, or networking with families to recruit and encourage other families to participate.

Do you have corporate contacts interested in making a donation, or a sponsorship opportunity?

Are you interested in any of several event day opportunities, from registration, incentive hand out, route supervision, kids area, BBQ and refreshment areas.  However you are able to share your time and talents, we want to hear from you.

Sun Life Ride to Defeat Diabetes for JDRF

The date for the 2019 Sun Life Ride to Defeat Diabetes for JDRF has been confirmed for Thursday, October 3rd at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, 123 King St. West,

The Sun Life Ride to Defeat Diabetes for JDRF is a fun, high energy event in which teams of 5 riders take turns riding a stationary bike for 7 minutes each in their chosen ride hour.

There are two ride hours to choose from, 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

It is not too early to register your team, and start to recruit your team of 5 riders.  We are looking to recruit teams from many different sectors, from banking, legal, accounting, real estate, insurance and more…

Community Engagement Program and Local Support Group Meetings

Bag of Hope

JDRF is pleased to provide our complimentary Bag of Hope, which contains a variety of educational and reference materials to help newly diagnosed children and their families along the way.

As a special gift, children under the age of 12 will also receive a Rufus bear, The Bear with Diabetes™, designed to help children cope and learn about insulin injections.

Mentor Program

Your child has just been diagnosed with diabetes what do you do now? When a loved one is diagnosed with diabetes, it can be a traumatic and stressful time. Fear, sadness, anger, and confusion about how to manage the disease can leave families feeling alone and overwhelmed.

You are not alone JDRF's Mentor Program Volunteers can help.

The Mentor Program can provide much needed emotional support, information about diabetes resources, education about what families can do to help find a cure, and most of all, be a good listener. JDRF's Family Network is free of charge, and we are here to help as long as you need it. Please note: our volunteers are not healthcare professionals, and are unable to provide specific medical advice, for which you should contact your doctor or other healthcare professional.

Volunteers Wanted

Whether it's the Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF, the Sun Life Ride to Defeat Diabetes for JDRF, or any other JDRF event that takes place during the year, they all require a considerable amount of volunteer help.

This help can be pre-event, working on one of many committees involving recruitment of participants, solicitation of sponsorships for items and services, or day-of-event duties such as registration, route supervision, kids activities, barbecue/refreshment area, etc.

In Honour and In Memory Donations

You can make a donation to JDRF in honour of someone you love, or to celebrate a special birthday or anniversary. Just call the office and we can easily process your donation and send out a personalized card on your behalf to the person being honoured.

If you wish to make a donation in memory of someone who has passed away, we will send a card to their next of kin to acknowledge your donation to JDRF in memory of their loved one.
