Hamilton Walk

Sunday, June 9th saw approximately 1,000 walkers attending the Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF at Pier 4 Park.

There are so many people to thank for the success of the 2019 event.

To each participant who came and walked with us (whether you created or joined a team or walked as an individual) your support of our mission to find a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D) is much appreciated. We do hope that everyone had an amazing and inspirational day, especially those walkers who participated for the first time, we can't wait to see you all again in 2020!

Thank you to each person who supported our amazing walkers with a donation and thank you to our regional and local sponsors: Alectra Utilities, Dexcom, Ippolito Produce, Lococo’s, Maple Leaf Foods, Tandem Diabetes Care, Trial Net, Trophy Foods, and Ypsomed Diabetes Care. Last, but certainly not least, a HUGE thank you to each and every volunteer who worked so hard behind the scenes, either before the Walk or on Walk day. Your energy and enthusiasm are contagious and we truly could not hold this event without you.

We hope you will all join us again in 2020, as we continue our battle to turn type one into type none.

Brantford Walk

What a difference a year makes!!

The 2019 SunLife Walk to Cure Diabetes for JDRF in Brantford was blessed with amazing sunny weather on June 23rd, which was very welcome after the thunderstorms that forced us to cancel the event last year.

Over 300 walkers enjoyed that wonderful weather at D’Aubigny Creek Park, many of them on teams who joined us for the first time, and we thank them for their support and dedication.

Thanks also go to each and every person who supported our walkers with a donation in support of T1D research. Thanks to our regional and local sponsors:   Brantwood Farms, Brantford Pipe and Drum, Brantford Fire Department, Cobblestones, Dionna Emery, Freshco, Magical Midways, Maple Lodge Farms, Rylan Photography, Sobeys, Tim Hortons, Trial Net and Ypsomed Diabetes Care. Again, we have an amazing group of volunteers, who work very hard, before the event and on Walk day, to ensure a smooth and enjoyable event for everyone, we could not do this without them!

If you participated in either Hamilton or Brantford and still have pledges to submit, please send them to: P.O. Box 93085, Headon Road P.O., Burlington ON L7M 4A3, so that we can receipt your donors in a timely manner

We have one final Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes event in our region:

The Niagara Region event is taking place on Sunday, September 8th, at the Grantham Lions Park, 732 Niagara St., St Catharines. Corporate teams, family teams and individual walkers are welcome.

Sun Life Ride to Defeat Diabetes for JDRF

On Thursday, October 3rd, 2019, the Sun Life Ride to Defeat Diabetes for JDRF will be taking place at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, 123 King St West.

The Sun Life Ride to Defeat Diabetes for JDRF is a fun, high energy event in which teams of 5 riders take turns riding a stationary bike for 7 minutes each in their chosen ride hour. It is a great opportunity for teambuilding and networking while raising funds for a great cause!

There are two ride hours to choose from, 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

It is not too early to register your team and start to recruit your team of 5 riders.  We are looking to recruit teams from many different sectors, from banking, legal, accounting, real estate, insurance and more… you don’t have to have a full team recruited in order to register and reserve your bike! The earlier the better!

Call Anne at 905.664.1432 or 1.866.602.6662 for more information, or register your Ride team today at jdrfride.ca

This help can be pre-event, working on one of many committees involving recruitment of participants, solicitation of sponsorships for items and services, or day-of-event duties such as registration, route supervision, kids activities, barbecue/refreshment area, etc.

For information on the many volunteer opportunities available, please contact Anne Martin at 905.664.1432/1.866.602.6662 or email amartin@jdrf.ca.
