2018 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Walk to Cure Diabetes, and we are proud to say that the Hamilton Chapter was one of the first three pilot sites for the Walk back in 1994
The three local events that are taking place in 2018 are:
Hamilton – Sunday June 10th – Pier 4 Park, 64 Leander Drive
Brantford – Sunday June 24th – D’Aubigny Creek Park, 5 Oakhill Drive
And we have a new location for our Niagara Region Walk.
Sunday September 9th – Grantham Lions Park – 732 Niagara St., St Catharine’s.
Registration is now open for all of our Walk events, so register your team today at http://jdrfwalk.ca/ and join the teams that have already registered and committed to helping us to find a cure for T1D.
Why not try to recruit a team of walkers from your place of work? While our event is largely attended by families, we always welcome corporate teams, or individual walkers to participate and help us in our fundraising efforts. Please call the office at 905 664 1432 or 1 866 602 6662 for further information on any of these local Walk events.
To celebrate 25 years, we want to try to re-connect with as many of our past Youth Ambassadors as possible, to find out how they are doing and to hopefully get some inspiring stories of living with T1D to share with the newly diagnosed families and their children that we meet every day.
If your child was an ambassador in any of our events, either Hamilton, Brantford or the Niagara Region Walks (which have been held in either Welland, Niagara Falls or in St Catharine’s over the years) we would love to hear from you.
Please share your stories with us by calling the office at 1 866 602 6662 or emailing Anne at firstname.lastname@example.org
As always we are looking for volunteers to assist with all our events, either on a committee recruiting walkers, soliciting the items we need to run the event, or volunteering your services on the day of the event. Call and find out know how you can lend your time and talent to the 25th anniversary Walk to Cure Diabetes.
You are invited!

We hope to see you on March 19th.
JDRF Revolution Ride to Defeat Diabetes
Planning has started for the 2018 Revolution Ride to Defeat Diabetes event which is to take place at the Art Gallery of Hamilton on Wednesday October 10th.
It is not too early to start thinking about entering your team of 5 riders – we are always looking for new corporate teams to participate in this fun, high energy event.
For all our past team captains, why not challenge another department/division/floor within your company to enter a team into the event, or maybe invite a company you do business with (or maybe a rival company) to participate, and either match, or beat the total your team raises.
Call 905 664 1432 or email Anne at firstname.lastname@example.org for further details.
Bag of Hope
JDRF is pleased to provide our complimentary Bag of Hope, which contains a variety of educational and reference materials to help newly diagnosed children and their families along the way.
As a special gift, children under the age of 12 will also receive a Rufus bear, The Bear with Diabetes™, designed to help children cope and learn about insulin injections.
To receive your Bag of Hope, please contact Anne Martin at 905.664.1432/1.866.602.6662 or email email@example.com.
Your child has just been diagnosed with diabetes – what do you do now? When a loved one is diagnosed with diabetes, it can be a traumatic and stressful time. Fear, sadness, anger, and confusion about how to manage the disease can leave families feeling alone and overwhelmed.
You are not alone – JDRF's Mentor Program Volunteers can help.
The Mentor Program can provide much needed emotional support, information about diabetes resources, education about what families can do to help find a cure, and most of all, be a good listener. JDRF's Family Network is free of charge, and we are here to help as long as you need it. Please note: our volunteers are not healthcare professionals, and are unable to provide specific medical advice, for which you should contact your doctor or other healthcare professional.
If you would like information about the Mentor Program, please contact Anne Martin at 905.664.1432/1.866.602.6662 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

Whether it's the Walk to Cure Diabetes, the Revolution Ride to Defeat Diabetes, or any other JDRF event that takes place during the year, they all require a considerable amount of volunteer help.
This help can be pre-event, working on one of many committees involving recruitment of participants, solicitation of sponsorships for items and services, or day-of-event duties such as registration, route supervision, kids activities, barbecue/refreshment area, etc.
For information on the many volunteer opportunities available, please contact Anne Martin at 905.664.1432/1.866.602.6662 or email email@example.com.
Volunteers are the backbone of JDRF and their support is truly appreciated!
You can make a donation to JDRF in honour of someone you love, or to celebrate a special birthday or anniversary. Just call the office and we can easily process your donation and send out a personalized card on your behalf to the person being honoured.
If you wish to make a donation in memory of someone who has passed away, we will send a card to their next of kin to acknowledge your donation to JDRF in memory of their loved one.
Call Anne Martin for further details at 905.664.1432/1.866.602.6662 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
