Thank you to all those who came out to support our 2017 JDRF TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes this past June. What a wonderful day to spend with family, friends and colleagues, all in support of something close to your heart. We hope that you enjoyed your experience and felt inspired and moved by the sea of people ready to walk together for a cure. Through your support, we are able to move another step closer to finding a cure for type one diabetes. From all of us here at JDRF and all those in the T1D community, THANK YOU!

Community Engagement

JDRF is pleased to provide our complimentary Bag of Hope, containing a variety of educational and reference materials to help newly diagnosed children and families along the way.

As a special gift, children under the age of 12 will also receive a Rufus or Ruby, The Bear with Diabetes™, designed to help children cope and learn about insulin injections.

To receive your Bag of Hope, please contact JDRF at or 1.877.287.3533.

Mentor Program

Your child has just been diagnosed with diabetes. What do you do now? When a loved one is diagnosed with diabetes, it can be a traumatic and stressful time. Fear, sadness, anger, and confusion about how to manage the disease can leave families feeling alone and overwhelmed.

You're not alone. JDRF's Family Network Volunteers can help.

JDRF’s Family Network Volunteers can provide much needed emotional support, information about diabetes resources, education about what families can do to help find a cure and, most of all, be a good listener. JDRF’s Family Network is free of charge, and we are here to help as long as you need it. Please note, our volunteers are not healthcare professionals and are unable to provide medical advice – always consult your doctor or other healthcare professional.

Volunteers Wanted

Whether it's the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes or any other JDRF event that takes place during the year, they all require a considerable amount of volunteer help.

This help can be pre-event, working on one of many committees involving recruitment of participants, solicitation of sponsorships for items and services, or day-of-event duties such as registration, route supervision, kids activities, barbecue/refreshment area, etc.

For information on the many volunteer opportunities available, please contact Tracey Raycroft at 705.792.4833 or

Volunteers are the backbone of JDRF and their support is truly appreciated!
