T1D Community Support
JDRF breaks the barrier of isolation by connecting members of the type 1 diabetes (T1D) community to each other as well as opportunities to improve outcomes for people living with T1D. Recognizing that diagnosis can take place at any age, and that T1D can impact your life decades after diagnosis, we offer a variety of services and opportunities to engage across the lifetime.
JDRF is grateful to our community partners such as the BC Interior Community Foundation who are supporting JDRF with a grant for our Community Engagement Program.
Support & Connect At Diagnosis:
Bag of Hope: A free bag of resources including Rufus the T1D teddy bear
When a Child Has Diabetes: A book covering everything you need to know about T1D when diagnosed
Talk T1D: A peer support program connecting you to trained volunteers living with T1D
Support & Connect In Later Years:
Teen Youth Council: An online support network run by and for teens living with T1D
Talk T1D: Peer support with life-adjustments like pregnancy, retirement, or first jobs
T1D Insider: Regular emails with blogs about research and T1D lifestyle information
T1D Connect: Local free or low cost social and educational events for the T1D community
Advocacy: Join local, provincial and national campaigns to improve life for people living with T1D
For more information about the programs above, please contact Shannon Jolley at [email protected] or 250.765.7711.
