Charli-Mae

Charli-Mae, her sister Madison and parents were featured ambassadors of the 2020 Sun Life Ride to Defeat Diabetes for JDRF.

When Charli-Mae was 2 years old, she started exhibiting symptoms of what would be an autoimmune disease she would have for the rest of her life. Her parents never could have imagined that their little girl would be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

They will never forget the day they rushed her to the hospital, where she was given her first insulin shot. Since then, the family has effectively re-jigged their lives to always make her diabetes and care a priority.

Participating in the Ride gave Julie and Kevin the opportunity to fundraise and let others know how JDRF and the research it supports can make a huge change in the lives of people like Charli-Mae, who they hope will one day never have to have another needle again.

They would do anything to give their daughter back those years, free from insulin injections, pokes and prods, but because of the work being done to find a cure, they feel hopeful for her future.

Our daughter always talks about a cure as if it’s a magical envelope that researchers are looking for, every day. We really want to get her that ‘envelope’ soon.
