What songs get you through the hard times?

The power of music can carry you through the good and bad times. From rough days to the sunniest of days, certain songs can inspire you to press on. There have been times in my life where type 1 diabetes (T1D) got me down. There were a few songs that I remember helping me turn things around.

In university, I was having a particularly hard time managing my blood sugar. My eating was terribly off and my blood sugar levels were dangerously high. As time passed and I felt more and more depressed, there was one song I played on loop giving me hope: Hold On by Wilson Phillips. It's now somewhat amusing looking back and thinking about me belting out a Wilson Phillips song alone in my room at night, tears in my eyes. But yes, just like Carnie, Chynna, and Wendy sang: “Hold on for one more day.” And that I did.

My go-to song to get my body back in shape was always Eye Of The Tiger by Survivor. If Sly Stallone could bust out such an intense workout in the dead of winter or in the emptiness of a barn, surely I could get up off the couch to do a 20-minute workout video!

The power of a song can be incredible. What about you? What songs have got you through the hard times?
