The Research Continues

Before I became involved in JDRF, I didn't realize the extent of the research that goes on as a result of this organization. Their research has the potential to affect lives across Canada and even around the world. Here are three research projects that you may not know about:

Beta-cell regeneration research

Researchers are working on re-growing and restoring beta cells. The ultimate hope is to increase surviving beta cells to become insulin producing.

The Artificial Pancreas Project

This project involves developing an artificial pancreas in hopes to mimic production of insulin like a regular pancreas.

Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet

This research study is aiming to find out how diabetes can be prevented in relatives of type 1 diabetes. Since relatives of T1D patients have a higher chance of developing T1D compared to the general population, this research is vital to future prevention initiatives.
