T1D and My Fingertips

My fingertips have endured multiple punctures per day due to blood sugar monitoring. They have become callused, and some of them scarred.

My most popular fingertips are on my index and middle fingers. Over my 30 years of having T1D, these fingers have proved most successful at getting the right amount of blood on the test strips. Therefore, some might say I’m playing favourites (or unfavourites) with my choice of fingertips. My pinkies and thumbs have never had a good success rate for me.

One thing I have noticed is how my index and middle fingers are sometimes not as effective on touch screens. I wonder if I’m imagining it at times but I’m pretty sure that the callused parts of my fingertips are not always recognized on the touch screens.

Has anyone else noticed this? What fingers do you find are the most useful for checking blood sugar?
