JDRF 2013 Galas: Raising Funds for T1D Research

Every year, JDRF offices across Canada and their respective Gala committees come up with a unique theme for their location’s annual JDRF Gala.  Thousands of families, volunteers, donors, partners and sponsors come out for an elegant evening complete with an enticing formal dinner, live entertainment, dancing, silent and live auctions, and JDRF’s signature Fund A Cure.  Similar to a live auction, Fund A Cure allows guests to donate the gift level of their choice and receive a Fund A Cure Bear, as well as a tax receipt for their contribution.

The Galas take place in ten cities across Canada* and are a core fundraising program for JDRF. In 2012 more than 3,500 people attended the Galas and raised a remarkable $2.9 million for type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. We hope to exceed that fundraising goal this year and have even more JDRF supporters come out for these exciting events.

This year the Victoria location promises that JDRF will not stop its pursuit of a cure for T1D with their 9th Annual Promise Ball.  Kelowna held the Starlight Gala complete with Gatsby Glamour while Calgary asked us to remain hopeful for a cure at the 2013 Hope Gala. Mississauga is getting dolled up for the Starlight Soiree by the Lake, while Nanaimo is preparing for their 6th Annual Gala of Hope. Vancouver is getting ready to rock at their 14th Annual Rockin’ for Research Gala, and Montreal is preparing for their 2013 DIA-BEAT-IT Gala.  Edmonton is all about Denim and Diamonds at this year’s November Gala, and Toronto is promising a good time for all at the 2013 Promise Ball. Winnipeg had a magical evening at the Starry Starry Night Gala in April, and is already building on their success to plan for their Gala in 2014.

We would like to thank the many volunteers and supporters for making these events possible. For more information or to find a JDRF Gala near you, please visit jdrf.ca/galas.
