I am an adult with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Are you?
As captain of “Team SohmerStein” I proudly participate in the annual TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes in support of JDRF! Do you?
Maybe you were diagnosed as a child and you have had to take over from your parents’ active role in your diabetes management. You have had to add this to the list of other responsibilities associated with your transition to adulthood.
Maybe, like me, you were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) as an adult, adding yet another responsibility to a list that seems to grow on a daily basis!
I was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 23 while I was studying to become a physician at McGill University. Even though, as an adult, it probably was a little easier to deal with the diagnosis because I was able to better understand what was happening, I decided to take a month off school to get everything in order. Now I am a mother of two active boys and have an incredibly busy life. Being a mom is a juggling act, managing T1D is a juggling act. That is A LOT to juggle!
Despite this, I do make it a point to support JDRF in any way that I can. Adults with T1D make a big impact because we are the ones who can best express what it is like to live with diabetes. I can make a difference by supporting JDRF, the leading global organization focused on T1D research.
The TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes is my chance and yours to help JDRF in their mission to cure, better treat and prevent T1D. My family and friends join and support “Team SohmerStein” to help make a difference in my life. I do it because a cure would CHANGE my life, my family’s life and the lives of all children and adults affected by T1D forever!
Please consider joining us to ensure that JDRF can continue to improve the lives of EVERYONE living with diabetes, including yours. Visit jdrf.ca/walk for more information and to register today!
