Dave Ramdial is our July "Volunteer of the Month"

JDRF is an organization that relies on the dedication and support of our volunteers across Canada. We are excited to highlight Dave Ramdial of UPS Canada, who is our first JDRF Volunteer of the Month.

Dave Ramdial

Q. How did you get involved with JDRF?
A. I got involved with JDRF originally in New Brunswick after attending a JDRF event and hearing an inspiring speech from a Youth Ambassador. I realized how fortunate my family was to be in good health and knew that I needed to get involved with JDRF to help make a difference.

Q. How long have you been a volunteer?
A. I have been involved with JDRF in various capacities for the last 15 years, originally becoming involved through UPS Canada in New Brunswick. Currently, I continue to be involved with JDRF in the Greater Toronto Area as the Co-Chair of the National Walk Cabinet for the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes.

Q. How did your role at work contribute to your volunteering?
A. As I took on increased responsibilities at UPS Canada, I saw the opportunity to leverage my role to help strengthen the partnership with JDRF nationally through UPS Canada’s involvement with the TELUS Walk. I encourage my colleagues to support the Walk campaign and to take part in fundraising events for this great cause.

Q. What do you enjoy most about volunteering for JDRF?
A. I really enjoy taking part in the overall strategic development of the TELUS Walk. I know I am aligning with an organization that makes a sustainable future for those living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) possible.

Over the years he has spoken at our staff training, attended and spoke on many of our TELUS Walk staff conference calls, and continues to be an inspiration for our staff and volunteers when speaking to employee/participant engagement and fundraising. Dave has also played a key role on the TELUS Walk Cabinet through his support of stewardship and recognition calls to participants and volunteers. Dave was recently honoured with the 2012 Volunteer of the Year Award at JDRF’s Annual General Meeting in June.

Congratulations Dave, and thank you for being an exceptional volunteer for JDRF!
