Boston Pizza Shares the Love
Boston Pizza is spreading the love this Valentine’s Day! When you order a heart shaped pizza, Boston Pizza will donate a portion of the proceeds to JDRF to help find a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D).
At Boston Pizza, we like to say that “dough raising isn’t strictly kept in the kitchen.” We are a company serious about philanthropy and since the Boston Pizza Foundation was established in 1990 we have raised more than $14 million for a number of great causes.
We have always been involved with causes that were important to us as an organization as well as to our people. For example, we became involved with JDRF when the young son of one our corporate employees was diagnosed with T1D. We wanted to do our part to help the family through a very difficult time, and we’ve been involved with JDRF ever since.
Since 2001, the Boston Pizza Foundation has raised and donated over $2.4 million to JDRF. From helping to establish the Islet Transplantation Protocol and supporting the clinical trials at the University of Alberta in Edmonton to making a solid commitment to JDRF through the million dollar commitment that set up the Boston Pizza Artificial Pancreas Project Fund, we have seen our commitment to JDRF make tangible, real and measurable impacts for those living with T1D.
The ‘Boston Pizza Foundation Artificial Pancreas Fund’ will support research and clinical trials related to the Artificial Pancreas, a device, which, when fully developed, would be the first automated system available on the market to dispense insulin based on real-time changes in blood sugar levels, helping people better manage T1D.
We’ve made organizations like JDRF our partners and continue to work together to achieve common goals. What JDRF does isn’t just research for research sake. The wonderful thing about being involved with JDRF is that we see results and I believe together we will find a cure.
“All of us at Boston Pizza are pleased our donations to JDRF help breakthrough research dramatically improve the daily lives of millions of people who suffer from type 1 diabetes,” says Cheryl Treliving, executive director, Boston Pizza Foundation. “The millions of dollars the Boston Pizza Foundation has contributed to JDRF since 2001 fit perfectly with our mission to directly improve the health and well-being of children and families across Canada.”
This year, the Boston Pizza Foundation has raised more than $2.5 million through programs like our well-known Heart-Shaped Pizza sales on Valentine’s Day, as well as our Boston Pizza Kids Card Program. Both are great examples of the collaboration it takes from everyone involved corporately at Boston Pizza and at our Foundation, right down to our servers in the store who really make the fundraising happen.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our people and the great work they do, and on behalf of George, Jim and everyone at the Boston Pizza I want to say thank you to all of them for their incredible hard work and determination” says Treliving.
How can you support the Boston Pizza Foundation in their efforts to support charities across Canada including the JDRF? This Thursday (Valentine’s Day), Boston Pizza’s across Canada will be contributing $1 from every Heart Shaped Pizza and $2 from every paper heart sold to the Boston Pizza Foundation.
So on February 14th, bring your loved ones and friends to any BP restaurant and share a Heart Shaped Pizza, filling your bellies and your hearts. Love is in the air at Boston Pizza!
