Age: 9
Age at diagnosis: 2
Lives in: Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON

Maya was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at 2 years old and have been heavily involved with JDRF for many years. She was a JDRF Walk youth ambassador, a delegate for Kids for a Cure Lobby Day in 2018 and has participated in an #AccessForAll campaign in Queen’s Park, where she collected over 1,500 signatures. Her advocacy has led to her meeting with potential MPs and being featured in many radio interviews and newspaper articles. Maya’s family has participated in the Trial-Net clinical trial and has helped her advocate and educate others on the disease. When she is not busy with advocacy work, Maya enjoys basketball, swimming, biking, and gymnastics, as well as painting and spending time with family. She looks forward to making a difference at this year’s Kids for a Cure Lobby Day by advocating for the T1D community.
