Age: 9
Age at diagnosis: 3
Lives in: New Richmond, QC

Kathleen was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at the age of 3 and her whole family has been very involved with JDRF. She has spoken at Diabetes Day Evening for Northern New Brunswick and raised funds for JDRF through community fundraisers. Her father also lives with type 1 diabetes and her mother is a Talk T1D mentor to newly diagnosed families. When she is not raising awareness for T1D, Kathleen can be found playing the violin, horseback riding, baking, and exploring nature and she hopes to become a pediatrician in the future. For Kathleen, a cure would mean freedom from the insulin pumps, the alarms going off when she’s sleeping, and to be like other kids at school.
