JDRF Canada Recognizes Volunteers in Celebration of National Volunteer Week
(April 21 – 27, 2013)
During National Volunteer Week 2013, JDRF celebrates and recognizes the extraordinary contribution of our volunteers across Canada. This year’s theme is Passion. Action. Impact. These words truly describe the extensive commitment and dedication our volunteers demonstrate through their continuous support. We are extremely grateful. It is because of you that JDRF is able to focus on our goal of improving the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing the disease.
For nearly 40 years, JDRF has been driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease. We’ve had tens of thousands of volunteers join the cause and contribute in countless meaningful ways. Your stories and connections inspire us, and fuel JDRF’s unrelenting commitment to find a cure – and, in the near term, better treatments – for people with T1D.
It is the passion, action and impact of our tremendous volunteers that truly enables the success of JDRF’s national programs, such as our Advocacy initiatives, Outreach programs, Gala events, the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes and the Ride for Diabetes Research.
In 2012, JDRF Canada achieved the following because of our Volunteers’ leadership and support:
- $7.7 million raised at the Ride for Diabetes Research with over 22,000 participants in 21 locations.
- $7.7 million raised at the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes with more than 45,000 participants over 70 sites.
- More than $4 million raised at our Galas across Canada, celebrating with over 4,500 guests.
- Over 3,200 advocates increasing JDRF’s awareness and support with the Government of Canada.
- 258 families mentoring and supporting other families living with T1D across Canada.
JDRF can continue to make positive impacts in the lives of over 300,000 Canadians living with T1D only because of your actions and commitment to our cause. You are the motivation behind the progressive change and improvements in diabetes management tools. Because of you, JDRF is the world’s largest charitable supporter and advocate of T1D research.
Thank you for your continued support and determination in helping us cure, better treat, and prevent T1D.
With our sincere appreciation,
The Team at JDRF
