Centre de la nature de Laval,
901 du Parc Avenue, Laval (QC) H7E 2T7
In 2012, over 3,000 individuals including family and organizational teams from the Montreal Area, made the event a huge success helping us raise over $472,000! This year’s TELUS Walk will prove to be even bigger and better than ever! We are expecting over 3,200 participants in the hopes of raising an astounding $496,500 for diabetes research. Join us to make diabetes history!
“Diabetes is a daily battle and it never takes a break. Every day I need to count my carbohydrates, poke myself at least four times and take insulin to stay healthy and avoid developing complications. But I don’t let it bring me down and it doesn’t stop me from enjoying my favorite activities: soccer, basketball, playing with my sisters and brother and baking. Together with my family and friends, I participated in last year’s TELUS Walk because I believe in a cure. Please join us again at the Walk to help us find a cure for diabetes!”
-- Liana, 9 years old, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2011.

Mathieu, 12 years old, living with T1D since the age of 8. Secondary 1 student, baseball sports option.
" Some people think that diabetes is a temporary condition. I learned when I was diagnosed in 2006 that it was here to stay. By taking part in the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes in Quebec City on June 2, I am helping advance diabetes research in my own way. Join us in the walk and please give generously. "

"For this fifth edition of the Ride, I am proud to once again represent those living with type 1 diabetes and to act as a big sister to younger people like Rosalie. Our objective is to raise over $175,000 this year. I'm convinced that we can do it with your help! Register today. Ride stationary. Move research forward."
AudreyAnn, 15 years old, diagnosed at 8 years old.

"Before I had diabetes, I was free and could eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Today, I have to think about my blood sugar and eat according to my meal plan. I still lead an active life. I can do just about anything, but in my own way. Your support is critical in helping JDRF fund research towards a cure for diabetes. Join us on September 13!"
Rosalie, 11 years old, diagnosed at 5 years old.
Thanks to our campaign committee chair Sylvain S. Pageau from the Banque Laurentienne and to all our committee members for their hard work.

Message from Laurence, our youth ambassador

" Having lived with type 1 diabetes since the age of one, it's as though I was born with it. I have learned to manage it, but I don't know what it's like to live without it. If I take a break from managing diabetes, I pay for it. My fondest wish is to wake up one morning without diabetes so I could live a normal life. I hope to make this dream come true one day. To make this happen, I need as many people as possible to join us for the Ride. Register now and help make my dream come true. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. "
Laurence, 14 years old, diagnosed at age 1

"My name is Renaud. I am 6 years old and was diagnosed at the age of 5. I check my blood sugar before I eat and have to inject myself with insulin 5 times each day. I would love to play with my friends at their homes and be more like them, eating snacks whenever I want and not having to check my blood sugar. I don't let this get me down and I focus on my hobbies like downhill skiing, biking and soccer. Help me make my dream come true so I won't have to worry about diabetes all the time. Join us for the 2013 Ride!"

Volunteer Opportunities

Whether it's the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes, the Ride for Diabetes Research, or any other JDRF event that takes place during the year, they all require a considerable amount of volunteer help.
This help can be pre-event, working on one of many committees involving recruitment of participants, solicitation of sponsorships for items and services, or day-of event duties such as registration, route supervision, kids activities, barbecue/refreshment area, etc.
Volunteers are the backbone of JDRF and their support is truly appreciated!
For more information, please contact Ana Isabel Otero.
