Hamilton - June 14, 2015

The 2015 TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes in Hamilton was once again a great success, and we welcomed over 1,200 walkers at Pier 4 Park, including many new teams who participated with us for the first time.

If anyone is still fundraising over the summer months for their walk team, please let us know, the online fundraising system is still accepting donations until December 31 to add to your team total!

Contact Anne at 1.866.602.6662 if you have additional funds to send in.

Brantford - June 28, 2015

Despite a very rainy weekend, the sun came out briefly while the 2015 Brantford Walk took place at Waterworks Park!! We thank the many walkers who braved what did not look to be good weather and still came out to participate and help raise over $43,000 for JDRF.

We would like to thank the many families who were not deterred by the weather, and came out to support the walk for the first time, as well as our new Corporate Sponsor, Maple Lodge Farms, who generously donated the product for and the staff to cook, our post event BBQ.

Again, call Anne Martin at the JDRF Office - 1.866.602.6662 or e mail Anne at amartin@jdrf.ca if you still have additional funds to add to your walk total, or if you are still holding fundraising events for the Brantford Walk.

Niagara Region (Welland) - September 20, 2015

The new venue for the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes proved to be very popular with our walkers this year. Over 200 participants came out and enjoyed a day of fun and friendship, along with raising funds for T1D research. Tentative figures are coming in at $45,500 and we are hoping to get to reach our goal of $50,000.

Many thanks go to the walkers, donors, sponsors, and of course, the many volunteers who made this event such a success.

Mentor Program

Your child has just been diagnosed with diabetes - what do you do now?  When a loved one is diagnosed with diabetes, it can be a traumatic and stressful time.   Fear, sadness, anger and confusion about how to manage the disease can leave families feeling alone and overwhelmed.

You are not alone - JDRF's Mentor Program Volunteers can help.

The Mentor Program can provide much needed emotional support, information about diabetes resources, education about what families can do to help find a cure, and most of all, be a good listener.  JDRF's Family Network is free of charge, and we are here to help as long as you need it.  Please note: our volunteers are not healthcare professionals, and are unable to provide specific medical advice, for which you should contact your doctor or other healthcare professional.

If you would like information about the Mentor Program, please contact Anne Martin at 905.664.1432 or amartin@jdrf.ca

Third Party Events

What is a third party event? It is a fundraising event for JDRF, organized independently by an outside (third) party.

If your company, club, or group is interested in helping raise funds for JDRF, there are many ways to do so. From raffles to barbecues, bake sales, garage sales, car washes, and golf tournaments, the only limit is your imagination!

If you wish to host a third party event in support of JDRF, or are interested in more information, please contact Anne Martin at 905.664.1432/1.866.602.6662 or amartin@jdrf.ca.

Fundraise at your child's School

Why not ask your child's school to hold a Toonie Day in support of JDRF? Many schools will support the child within their own school community - JDRF can provide "In Support of" stickers and paper sneakers to support this program, as they bring us one step closer to a cure. Contac the JDRF office for further details.

Fundraise Your Way

Without people like you, JDRF would not be able to do the things we do - so put your imagination to work! There is no limit to the different ways that you can personally help raise funds and awareness in support of diabetes research.  Whether it is a challenging sporting activity, celebrating a birthday, special anniversary or wedding, honoring a loved one, or organizing a trivia night, you can start your own fundraising campaign and have friends, family and colleagues sponsor you, or ask them to donate to your worthy cause!
