World Diabetes Day Scavenger Hunt
November 10, 2013 @ 2:00 pm
Halifax: Citadel Hill Clock Tower
Cape Breton: Sydney Boardwalk, behind Civic Centre
Calgary: Tompkins Park (17th Ave and 8th Street SW)
JDRF Nova Scotia and Calgary chapters will be hosting a City-Wide Photo Scavenger Hunt to celebrate Diabetes Awareness Month in 2013 in collaboration with Connected In Motion and sponsored by Novo-Nordisk.
As World Diabetes Day falls on a Thursday this year, the Photo Scavenger Hunt and Celebrations will be taking place on Sunday November 10, 2013 in Nova Scotia and Calgary! The purpose of the event is to get outside, connect with fellow T1s, 5.5ers, families and friends, spread awareness about diabetes and, of course, celebrate!
What is a photo scavenger hunt, you ask? Teams will be provided with a list of D-themed items to find, and take photos with (ex. Find the snack that would require the largest bolus). Photos will be uploaded online and judged to be entered to win some great prizes!
Team captains should register their teams (recommended team size is 4-6 individuals, any ages!) to participate in the event.
Select photos will be uploaded online following the event and winning photos from across the country will be showcased on the JDRF Nova Scotia & Calgary Facebook Page and Website.
Post event celebrations will take place afterwards at location TBD.
What to Bring?
Comfortable shoes! This is a walking hunt. No vehicles allowed!

The D-teens are youth ages 12-17 who are living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Adolescence brings its own special challenges to any family, and diabetes adds another layer to these trying years. D-Teens was formed with the specific needs and challenges of this group in mind.
This group gives teens and "tweens" the opportunity to connect with their D-peers, while enjoying activities designed for teens. Keep checking back here to stay tuned for upcoming events.
Family Support Network
Family Support Groups meetings are held monthly in communities throughout Nova Scotia to provide support, conversation, and a break for those parents/caregivers of youth living with T1D. An informal meeting, it gives parents an opportunity to discuss the issues they face each day, as well as share experiences that may help newly diagnosed families.
The Family Support Network is run by a group of dedicated JDRF volunteers. For more information, contact JDRF email@example.com or 1.888.439.5373
DM 1 Dish & Dine
Are you an adult living with T1D who is interested in getting together with other adults with T1D? Contact Lara Abramson (902.453.1586 or firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information about the DM1 Dish & Dine - Adult Support for Type 1s.
We would like to thank our industry partners for supporting JDRF and our events throughout 2012 and we look forward to working with you in 2013.
What is a third party event? It is a fundraising event for JDRF, organized independently by an outside (third) party.
If your company, club, or group is interested in helping raise funds for JDRF, there are many ways to do so. From raffles to barbecues, bake sales, garage sales, car washes, and golf tournaments, the only limit is your imagination!
If you are interested in hosting an event or would like more information, contact the JDRF office.
We’re always happy to welcome new volunteers to help out at our fundraising events, to serve on event planning committees, and to assist staff in the JDRF. For more information on local volunteer opportunities, email or call the JDRF office.
